Rental is a second business
Every rental unit needs a rate, a contract, an inspection out and back, service between rents, and a bill. HBS lists rental as one of the departments NetView ECO connects across branches. The value is in the ties: a return can trigger an inspection work order, and the bill lands in the same books.
Why web-native helps rental
Rental happens at the counter, in the yard, and at the job site. A browser-based system means the yard hand can check a unit out on a tablet and the office sees it right away. No special computer, no install.
What to test in the demo
- Rate setup: day, week, month, and overtime rules.
- Contract printing or e-sign from the rental screen.
- Out and back inspections with photos.
- Service scheduling between rentals.
- Utilization report: days rented versus days sitting.
The payback math
For a rental fleet spread across branches, the payback comes from fewer idle days, fewer missed damage charges, and units moving to where the demand is. Use the tool below: one-time setup cost, monthly savings you expect, and any added monthly cost. If savings do not beat the added cost, the honest answer is: not yet.
Honest limit
Public pages list rental as a connected department but do not detail every rental feature. Ask to see your exact rental workflow live, end to end, before you sign.
A worked task: the branch-transfer return
Suggested demo test: a unit rented from Branch A comes back to Branch B. Inputs: one active contract, two branches. Expected output: Branch B checks the unit in against the same contract, the inspection and any damage bill attach to it, and the invoice reconciles to the right branch in the books. The exception to ask about: how revenue and repair costs split between the branches. Get that rule configured before go-live, because it is an argument waiting to happen otherwise.
Do this week
Count how many times a rental crossed branches last quarter. If the answer is more than zero, this exact test belongs in your demo.
| Number | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Utilization | Share of days a unit is out on rent |
| Rate vs collected | What you charged vs what you billed |
| Damage recovery | Damage billed and actually paid |
| Service downtime | Days a unit cannot rent |
