Why mobile matters in equipment sales
Equipment sales happen on the lot, in the yard, and at the customer's job site. A CRM that only works at a desk gets updated at the end of the day, if at all. Texada lists mobile access as part of Equipment CRM, so the promise is: log the call while the customer is still standing there.
What to test on your own phone
- Log a call in under a minute.
- Open a customer's record and see their units.
- Update an opportunity stage.
- Set a follow-up reminder.
- Find a customer by name with cold hands and bright sun.
Test with your real conditions
Do not test mobile on the vendor's demo laptop. Bring the phone your reps actually carry, stand in your own yard, and try the five tasks above. If it is painful there, it will be painful every day, and a painful CRM becomes an empty CRM.
The adoption question
A mobile CRM only works if reps use it. Ask the vendor what they see dealers do to get rep adoption, and ask your reference dealers the same question. The answer is usually boring: management looks at the pipeline every Monday, so reps keep it current.
A worked task: the tailgate test
Suggested demo test: stand at your own truck tailgate with your own phone and log a customer call, start to finish. Inputs: one phone, one real customer. Expected output: the call logged, the next step set, and the record updated before you pocket the phone. The exception to test: bad signal at the edge of the yard. Ask what happens to an update made offline, because a CRM that loses tailgate updates teaches reps to stop bothering.
Do this week
Ask your reps where they write things down today. Every notebook and text thread you find is a place follow-up currently goes to die.
| Where | What to test |
|---|---|
| The lot | Customer lookup and call logging |
| The yard | Opportunity update by the machine |
| The job site | Follow-up reminder before driving back |
| The manager's truck | Pipeline view for the whole team |
