Implementation and migration

DIS Quantum implementation and data migration

What moving to Quantum really involves: data buckets, training, go-live, and a readiness checklist you can export.

Based on public product documentation. We have not tested a private account. Sources checked 2026-11-05. Product names belong to their owners; this is an independent guide, not an endorsement.

The hard part is not the software

Switching a DMS is like moving your whole house while the store stays open. The install is the easy part. The hard parts are your data, your people's habits, and the first month of go-live. Plan for those and the move has a much better chance of going well.

Your data, in buckets

Customers. Units in stock. Parts with counts and costs. Open work orders. Open quotes. Rental contracts. Balances owed. For a Quantum move, ask DIS how each bucket maps into the new system and who does the mapping. Every bucket needs a decision: what moves, what gets cleaned first, and what stays behind as read-only history.

What to ask DIS

  • Who does the data mapping, us or you?
  • How many test loads do we get before go-live?
  • What training is included, on site or remote?
  • What does week one support look like?
  • Can we run old and new side by side for a month?

A realistic timeline

DIS does not publish a Quantum timeline, and we will not invent one. For a mid-size dealer, a careful move is usually measured in months, not weeks. Ask for a written project plan with your store's name on it.

Use the checklist

The checklist below is the same one we would use for a Quantum move. Check items off, export to CSV, and bring it to your DIS meeting. A vendor who has moved dealers your size before will have clear answers to every line.

A worked task: the open-items freeze list

Two weeks before any go-live, export every open work order, open quote, and active rental contract, and decide each one's fate: finish in the old system or move. Inputs: your open-items lists. Expected output: a freeze list with an owner for every line. The exception that stings: core charges and deposits sitting outside normal invoices. They are easy to forget and painful to reconcile, so put them on the list explicitly.

Do this week

Ask DIS for a written migration plan with test loads before go-live, and ask how many dealers your size they have moved in the last year. A vendor who has done it will have a template ready.
