Data migration

Moving your data into Flyntlok

What moving to a cloud DMS involves: data buckets, cleaning, and a readiness checklist you can export.

Based on public product documentation. We have not tested a private account. Sources checked 2026-11-05. Product names belong to their owners; this is an independent guide, not an endorsement.

The hard part is not the software

Switching a DMS is like moving your whole house while the store stays open. With a cloud system there is no server to install, so the data work is even more of the job. The hard parts are your data, your people's habits, and the first month of go-live.

Your data, in buckets

Customers. Units in stock. Parts with counts and costs. Open work orders. Open quotes. Rental contracts. Balances owed, including commercial charge accounts. Each bucket needs a plan: what moves, what gets cleaned first, and what stays in the old system as read-only history.

What to ask Flyntlok

  • Who does the data mapping, us or you?
  • How many test loads do we get before go-live?
  • What training is included, on site or remote?
  • What does week one support look like?
  • Can we run old and new side by side for a month?

Use the checklist

The checklist below is the same one we would use for a Flyntlok move. Check items off, export to CSV, and bring it to your vendor meeting. Because the system is cloud, add one line of your own: how your data comes back out if you ever leave.

A worked task: the charge-account penny match

Commercial charge accounts must move perfectly. Suggested exercise: before go-live, print every charge-account balance from the old system and match the new system to the penny. Inputs: your charge-account list. Expected output: a signed-off match, account by account. The exception that erodes trust fast: a commercial customer whose balance is wrong in week one. They will notice before you do, so this check is not optional.

Do this week

Export your customer list and sort it by phone number. Every number that appears twice is a duplicate to merge before any import quote is written.
