What is public
Ideal publishes a customer care page, which shows support is a named, public part of the business. What we could not confirm from public pages on 2026-11-05: staffed support hours, response time promises, and how training is priced. Unconfirmed means we do not know, not that it is bad.
Portal access is not staffed support
Ideal publishes a customer care page, which is a good sign, but a care page is not a promise of hours. A portal is a library. Staffed support is a person who answers. Ask which you get, when, and how fast. For a seasonal OPE store, ask the hard question: what happens when the system has a problem on a Saturday in May?
Training questions that matter
- Is training on site, remote, or both?
- Is training priced by day, by person, or included?
- Do new hires later get training, or only the first group?
- Is there a practice copy of the system?
- Who do we call in week one after go-live?
The reference check
Ideal's site names real OPE dealers in its customer stories. Ask for two references near your size and call them. Ask one question: when something breaks on a busy Saturday, what happens? The answer tells you more than any brochure.
Write it into the deal
Support hours, channels, response targets, and training days belong in the contract, and for a seasonal store, so does the answer to the busy-Saturday question. Friendly promises in a demo are not a contract.
A worked task: the Saturday-in-May question
For an OPE store, the support question that matters is not generic. Suggested exercise: ask Ideal exactly what happens when the system has a problem on a Saturday in May, your busiest day of the year. Expected output: a specific answer — who answers, how fast, what channels. The exception to probe: a portal is not a person. If the Saturday answer is submit a ticket, decide honestly whether your store can live with that, because May Saturdays are when you cannot.
Do this week
Ask two Ideal reference dealers the Saturday question and compare their answers to the vendor's. The gap between the two answers is the truth.
| Term | What it really means |
|---|---|
| Portal access | Self-serve help articles and tickets |
| Staffed support | A person answers during set hours |
| SLA | A written promise on response time |
| Sandbox | A practice copy of your system |
| Go-live support | Extra help in the first weeks |
