Ideal rental management for OPE dealers
What Ideal lists for rental, how OPE rental differs from heavy equipment, and the payback math for a rental side-business.

OPE rental is its own animal
OPE rental is aerators, stump grinders, and tillers going out for a day or a weekend, not excavators going out for a month. High count, short terms, lots of weekend traffic. The system has to be fast at the counter on Saturday morning. Ideal lists rental as part of its outdoor power product.
What to test in the demo
- Rent a unit in under three minutes at the counter.
- Day and weekend rates, plus deposits.
- Out and back condition checks with photos.
- A calendar view of what is out and what is due back.
- Damage or late fees added to the bill.
The payback math
Rental software pays back when it cuts counter time, missed late fees, and double bookings. Use the tool below: one-time setup cost, monthly savings you expect, and any added monthly cost. If savings do not beat the added cost, the honest answer is: not yet.
Worked example
A dealer rents ten aerators every spring weekend. Before, the calendar was a whiteboard, and two units got double-booked in April. With the rental calendar in the system, the counter sees what is out, what is due, and what is reserved. This is a made-up example to show the idea, not a customer result.
Honest limit
Public pages list rental but do not detail every feature. Ask to see your exact Saturday-morning rush workflow live before you sign.
A worked task: the Saturday-morning rush
Suggested demo test: rent three units to three customers as fast as the system allows — contract, deposit, and condition photos for each. Inputs: three rental units, three customers. Expected output: three completed rentals in under ten minutes total. The exception that ruins weekends: double booking. Ask how the calendar blocks a reserved unit, because an aerator promised to two customers on the same Saturday is a customer lost, not a process problem.
Do this week
Count last season's double bookings and late-fee arguments. Even a rough count tells you what a real rental calendar is worth to your counter.
| Number | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Utilization | Days rented versus days sitting |
| Late returns | Units that come back late and fees collected |
| Damage recovery | Damage billed and actually paid |
| Counter time | Minutes per rental transaction |
